AAHAR 2022: 25 Products Showcased at GI Pavilion Set up by DPIIT

The Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) also took part in this exhibition, which featured GIs products from tribal communities such as Naga Mircha, Chak Hao rice, and Assam tea.

To boost Geographical Indications promotion in India, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) facilitated the establishment of a GI Pavilion in ITPO for five days from April 26th to April 30th, 2022. The event provided an opportunity to showcase Indian tradition, culture, and entrepreneurial activities all under one roof. At the fair, twenty-five GI products from across the country were on display.

Aahar 2022 attracted a large number of trade visitors, which aided GI holders in making connections and growing their businesses. These included the top ranks of the hotel industry, restaurants, catering industry/institutions, importers, buyers/distributors, and importers, buyers/distributors to source the best products in the food, hospitality, and equipment sectors. Senior management, professionals such as CEOs, Managing Directors, and General Managers made up a sizable portion of the visitors.

The GI Pavilion at AAHAR 2022 not only provided a platform for GI holders' products but also assisted them in connecting with businesses. The Cell for IPR Promotion & Management (CIPAM), an institution under the DPIIT, set up a 280 sqm GI Pavilion in Hall No. 2 under the category of "Food products and beverages," displaying select agricultural/foodstuff registered as GIs ranging from food products such as sweets, spices, cereals, and fruits at the exhibit.

Sangli raisins and Solapur pomegranate from Maharashtra, Erode Manjal turmeric from Tamil Nadu, Navara rice and Palakkadan Matta from Kerala, Bandar Laddu from Andhra Pradesh, and many more were on display.

The exhibits would highlight the GI logo and tagline "Invaluable Treasures of Incredible India," allowing for effective GI branding and promotion while also providing a platform for both national and international engagement.

As a result, it is proving to be an ideal location for global brand recognition for India's registered GIs and for creating a buzz at the international level. Furthermore, because this was an international event, it was expected that the event would promote GIs in a variety of foreign countries.

India's Geographical Indications include a wide range of products such as agricultural, natural, manufactured goods, foodstuff, and handicrafts. GIs are goods that are originated or manufactured in a specific territory, region, or locality, and where a given quality, reputation, or other feature of such goods is primarily attributable to their geographical origin. There are currently 390 GIs registered, with more registrations being submitted on a regular basis.
