Adopting Agricultural Innovations is Crucial for a Sustainable Future: S. P. Singh Baghel at MFOI Awards 2024
S. P. Singh Baghel praised farmers adopting modern farming practices and acknowledged the vital contributions of agricultural scientists, emphasizing the need for farmers to follow scientific advice to combat climate change and declining water levels.
On December 3, 2024, S. P. Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, delivered an inspiring address at the prestigious Millionaire Farmers of India (MFOI) Awards 2024, stressing the adoption of innovative farming techniques for sustainable agriculture. The event, held from December 1 to 3, 2024, at the iconic IARI Grounds in Pusa, New Delhi, was organized by Krishi Jagran, with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) as a co-organizer and sponsored by Mahindra Tractors.
In his address, S. P. Singh Baghel commended farmers who are embracing modern farming practices and moving away from traditional methods. He acknowledged their efforts in transforming the agricultural landscape and emphasized the crucial role of agricultural scientists in advancing sustainable agricultural development. Expressing optimism about the future of farming, he highlighted that with the right approach, agriculture can become significantly more profitable.
The Minister urged farmers to heed the advice of scientists, especially in light of the challenges posed by climate change, including shifting seasons and declining water levels. He also spoke about the importance of government support, particularly in ensuring fair minimum support prices (MSP), and praised the Green Revolution for making India self-sufficient in food production. He highlighted India's achievement as the leading global producer of milk, underscoring the country’s progress in agricultural self-reliance.
Baghel also encouraged farmers to shift towards modern and natural farming practices, stressing the need for agricultural diversification, water conservation, and the adoption of advanced techniques like drip irrigation. Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of incorporating modern practices in animal husbandry, such as artificial insemination, to improve productivity and sustainability in the sector.
The MFOI Awards 2024 served as a vibrant hub for agricultural innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. The event saw over 1,000 participants, including policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and progressive farmers, coming together to celebrate excellence in agriculture. Over three days, discussions and interactions underscored the sector’s pivotal role in national and global development.
