The All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) Number for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (with a base year of 1986-87=100) experienced a simultaneous increase of 19 points each, resulting in values of 1215 and 1226 points for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers, respectively.

The primary factor contributing to the overall index growth for both groups was the food category, which added approximately 18.23 and 18.28 points to the index for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers, respectively. This increase was primarily driven by elevated prices in items such as rice, wheat flour, pulses, milk, fresh and dried fish, jaggery, green and dried chillies, turmeric, garlic, ginger, onions, mixed spices, brinjal, tomatoes, and gourd.

The index increase varied across states. Agricultural Labourers saw a 1 to 29-point rise in 20 states, with Tamil Nadu leading at 1420 points and Himachal Pradesh at the bottom with 932 points. Similarly, for Rural Labourers, the index increased by 9 to 28 points across the same states, with Tamil Nadu topping at 1407 points and Himachal Pradesh at the lowest with 993 points. Notably, Tamil Nadu experienced the most significant increase in Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers (29 points), and both Tamil Nadu and Kerala saw the highest increase for Rural Labourers (28 points each). This was mainly due to price hikes in items like pulses, fish, chillies, ginger, onion, brinjal, tomato, and gourd.

The point-to-point inflation rates, as determined by the CPI-AL and CPI-RL, were 7.43% and 7.26%, respectively in July 2023.
