Alert! Heavy Rain to Create Havoc at These Places Today; Traffic Jams at Many Places due to Heavy Showers in Delhi

For the past few days, the process of light shower is continuing in the country's capital Delhi. Moreover, the weather took a turn on Monday amidst clouds and there was heavy rain in many places. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be similar rains in the capital till August 19.

As per the reports of IMD, the monsoon trough is active and lies south of its normal position. Its is very likely to be active and near normal/south of its normal position during next 3-4 days.

Convergence of strong moist southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea over plains of northwest India likely to further strengthen during next 24 hours.

A fresh Low Pressure Area is very likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around 19th August. It is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours.

These States Likely to Get Heavy Rainfall Today

Under the above scenario:

(i) Enhance rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy falls very likely over northwest India including Western Himalayan region till 20 August, 2020 and decrease thereafter. Isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls likely over East Rajasthan on 18th & 19th August and over Uttarakhand on 18th August, 2020.

(ii) Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Gujarat state, Maharashtra State & Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal during next 3-4 days.

(iii) Fairly widespread to widespread with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely also over Northeastern states during next 3-4 days. Isolated extremely heavy falls likely over Meghalaya on 20th and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 19th & 20th August, 2020.

Moderate to severe thunderstorm accompanied with lightning likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh during next 12 hours.

Maximum & Minimum Temperature in India

Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh while Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad.
