Amitabh Kant to Inaugurate G20 Environment Meet on March 27
Amitabh Kant, India's Sherpa to the G20, will inaugurate the second meeting of the G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group on March 27 in Gandhinagar.
Thirty countries will attend the three-day gathering, including China, Australia, Japan, Russia, and the United States. This meeting is planned to include representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The delegates will be escorted on an excursion to Adalaj Stepwell, Sabarmati Siphon, and the Sabarmati Riverfront on March 27. On the riverfront, the Gujarat government will also hold a gala banquet for the delegates.
As per Principal Secretary (Economic Affairs) Mona Khandhar, "The schedule is pre-decided by the G20 Secretariat. The state government helps to organize and support the event. Sabarmati has been designated as India's second most polluted river."
The underlying focus of the workshops offered during this three-day period will be "Water Resource Management." On March 28, technical workshops will be presented on climate resilient infrastructure, ground water management, resource efficiency, and circular economy, as well as the planned Gandhinagar Implementation Roadmap (GIR) on land restoration in conjunction with climate change mitigation.
Technical talks on oceans, blue economy, and related topics will be offered on March 29. Visitors will also be escorted to Dandi Kutir on the final day.
The Centre and state forest departments will display two pavilions based on the themes of Banni Grassland-Great Indian Bustard and Project Lion-Project Dolphin-Project Elephant.
