Amity University explores Agricultural Research Collaborations with University of Szeged, Hungary

A delegation from the University of Szeged visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh to strengthen collaborations in agricultural research, sustainability, academic exchange, innovation, and interdisciplinary scientific partnerships between India and Hungary.

Hungarian delegation and Amity University officials discuss agricultural research collaboration, innovation, and global academic partnerships.

A high-level research delegation from the University of Szeged, Hungary, visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus, to explore opportunities for academic and research collaborations in Agriculture and Allied Sciences. The delegation was led by Dr. Diana Daczi, Counsellor for Science and Technology, Embassy of Hungary, New Delhi, and included Prof. Tamás Monostori, College Professor and Head of the Institute of Plant Sciences and Environmental Protection, and Dr. Melinda Tar, Senior Researcher and expert in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Szeged. The visit aimed at strengthening Amity’s academic, research, and outreach initiatives in Hungary and the broader European region by identifying opportunities for engagement with University of Szeged and R&D organizations for joint initiatives in Agriculture and Allied Areas.

As part of the visit, Prof. Tamás Monostori and Dr. Melinda Tar delivered Guest Lectures on “Hungarian Sweet Potato Research” and “Effects of Biofertilizers on Plant Production and Soil Health”, respectively, outlining global trends in agriculture, sustainable practices, advancements in plant sciences, and innovative methodologies in agriculture and environmental protection.

Prof. Monostori emphasized that alongside Agriculture and Allied Sciences, domains such as Pharmacy and Engineering can also contribute significantly to innovative agricultural research. He further highlighted the potential for joint initiatives, academic exchange, mobility programmes, interdisciplinary projects, and knowledge-sharing platforms between Amity University and the University of Szeged.

Dr. Tar highlighted that joint projects, collaborative publications, enhanced opportunities for Ph.D. scholars and young researchers, will strengthen the research cooperation between Amity and University of Szeged, which will foster scientific advancement, and cross-cultural academic learning.

Dr. Diana Daczi expressed her enthusiasm for expanding mutual support between the two institutions beyond agriculture, into other emerging and interdisciplinary domains. She underscored the importance of identifying synergies in education, science, technology, and innovation to build a strong and sustainable partnership between Amity University and the University of Szeged.

Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation, presented the key research initiatives undertaken by Amity University and highlighted the institution’s focus on innovation, interdisciplinary research, sustainability, and global academic engagement. He opined that the visit marked a significant step towards fostering long-term ties between Amity University and the University of Szeged, paving the way for impactful joint initiatives in agriculture and environmental sustainability.

Presenting an overview of Amity’s contribution to Agricultural Research, Dr. Nutan Kaushik, Director General, Amity Food and Agriculture Foundation (AFAF), deliberated upon the potential areas of cooperation between the two institutions and stressed upon the importance of international tie-ups in addressing global agricultural challenges.

During the visit, the delegates interacted with senior officials, faculty members, and scientists of Amity University and discussed avenues for academic exchange, faculty mobility, and innovation-driven partnerships.
