AWBI Celebrates World Animal Day 2023 in New Delhi
World Animal Day, celebrated globally on October 4th each year, serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable diversity of life on Earth and the pivotal role animals play in our ecosystems.
The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), a statutory body of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, celebrated World Animal Day 2023 in a grand event held in New Delhi today.
The occasion was graced by the presence of key dignitaries, including Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, and the Minister of State of the Ministry, Dr. Sanjeev Balyan. Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, and Dr. O.P. Chaudhary, Chairman AWBI, were also in attendance.
Union Minister Rupala addressed the gathering, emphasizing the rich traditions related to animals in India that hold immense value for society. He urged the need to bring forward these traditional practices, which reflect respect and attachment towards animals. Rupala particularly highlighted the significant role of indigenous cows as the backbone of India's rural economy. He emphasized the importance of better utilization of cow dung and panchgavya by-products. During the event, the Union Minister also presented the prestigious Prani Mitra and JeevDaya awards.
Dr. Sanjeev Balyan echoed the sentiment of balance between humans and animals, emphasizing the crucial co-existence of both in society. He commended various organizations for their commendable work for animals and called for the expansion of these efforts to rural areas. Addressing the issue of stray animals, he stressed that it is a shared responsibility and called upon the public to cooperate in addressing this challenge.
The technical sessions featured discussions on pressing issues related to Waste to Wealth Innovative Technology, Sustainability, and Shelter Management of Gaushalas, Scientific Insights into Panchgavya, and Managing Human-Animal Conflict. Eminent speakers, including Jayesh Parikh, Girish J Shah, Prof. R.S. Chauhan, and Adv. Smt. Manisha T Karia, shared their insights and encouraged active participation in animal welfare activities while spreading awareness and compassion for animals.
