In a landmark development for Indian agriculture and environmental sustainability, the Natural Greenhouse developed by internationally recognised organic farming expert Dr. Rajaram Tripathi has received national scientific recognition through its publication in the latest issue of Current Horticulture, one of India's most respected peer-reviewed scientific journals in horticultural sciences.


The publication marks the culmination of nearly twenty-five years of continuous field experimentation, scientific observation and practical innovation undertaken at the Maa Danteshwari Herbal Farm & Research Centre in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. According to recent official and industry estimates, fertiliser imports and associated raw materials account for foreign exchange outflows exceeding one lakh crore rupees annually, while the Union Government also spends well over one lakh crore rupees every year on urea subsidy alone.

At a time when the country is striving for greater agricultural self-reliance and fiscal sustainability, innovations capable of naturally improving soil fertility assume national importance. The Natural Greenhouse addresses this challenge by producing nearly six tonnes of premium-quality organic green manure per acre every year from its own biological system. Scientifically selected support trees are planted at planned spacing, and high-yielding black pepper vines are established at their bases. Instead of remaining confined to ground level, the vines naturally climb to heights of 70 to 100 feet, transforming the vertical space into a highly productive biological asset.


Commercial harvesting begins within two to three years, with pepper spikes developing throughout the height of the living trees. The Natural Greenhouse therefore transforms every acre into a long-term productive ecological asset rather than a depreciating agricultural infrastructure.

Dr. Rajaram Tripathi is also the developer of Maa Danteshwari Black Pepper-16 (MDBP-16), a high-yielding black pepper variety officially registered in India. The variety has demonstrated exceptional adaptability beyond the traditional pepper-growing regions of southern India and is increasingly being adopted by farmers across several states because of its significantly higher productivity, lower irrigation requirement and wider climatic adaptability.
