Do you frequently receive calls or texts from mysterious numbers threatening to disconnect your electricity? Do you ever receive shady texts telling you that you won a lottery for XYZ rupees? These scam calls and messages are sent by con artists who would deceive you under false pretenses.

State Bank of India posted a 25-second video on its Twitter account cautioning clients against falling for such scam calls in an effort to raise awareness among users.

“Understand "YehWrongNumberHai"! Never return calls or SMS requests since these are scams intended to steal your personal or financial information." #CyberJagrooktaDiwas. Stay Alert and #SafeWithSBI," the bank tweeted.

An example of a scam message warning that a customer's power supply may be cut off shortly is given in the video posted by SBI on Twitter.

"Dear client, your power will be turned off tonight at 9.30 by the electrical officer. Your last month's bill was not updated. Please get in touch with an electricity officer right now,” the scam video's message requests.

It makes clear that an unknown number, not an official ID, sent the message. When people receive such messages, they are instructed to contact a random number. In order to make sure the letter is not a fake or scam, the bank has urged consumers to confirm the communication's source.

In additional SBI-related news, the bank has arranged a number of non-performing assets, including the fraudulent Sintex BAPL account, for sale this month in an effort to recoup over 746 crores. On November 4, the bank will put the NPAs up for auction and invite asset construction firms to bid.
