Bharat Bandh Today: Transport, Banking Services may be hit as 20 crore workers call for Nation-wide Strike
It will be a day of protests in India today as several trade unions, bank employees, teachers' associations and farmers' bodies are participating in the two days nationwide strike against the BJP government. Transport, banking, insurance, health, education and many other services would be affected as these trade unions, involving over 20 crore workers, will take part in the two-day protest. In addition, the left parties have also asked its allied unions to extend their support to the protest call given by the trade unions.

Transport, banking, insurance, health, education and many other services would be affected as these trade unions, involving over 20 crore workers, will take part in the two-day protest. In addition, the left parties have also asked its allied unions to extend their support to the protest call given by the trade unions.
As per reports, the trade unions will also join in the 'rail and rasta roko' protests demanding the implementation of a 12-point charter that includes minimum monthly salary of Rs 18,000, obligatory provision of equal pay for equal work, discontinuation of foreign investments in railways, social security provisions and job guarantee for jobless youth etc.
General Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress, Amarjeet Kaur said that more than 20 crore workers under these unions will take part in the protest against the anti-people policies of the Modi government.
Banking services all over the country, including cheque encashment, demand draft and other services are likely to be disrupted because of the two-day strike by All India Bank Employees Association (AlBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI).

The farmers’ bodies will extend full support to the ensuing Bharat Bandh today as well as tomorrow. General Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha Hannan Mollah said the move is against the Narendra Modi government's failure to solve rural distress issues and save rural farmers' lands from the corporate.

The 10 central trade unions who have jointly called for the countrywide general strike include - AIUTUC, INTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS, AICCTU, UTUC, LPF, TUCC and SEWA.

All educational institutions, which include schools, colleges and universities in Odisha, will be closed today (8th January) in view of the 2-day nationwide strike called by trade unions.

Major unions that will take part in the strike include All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI). Other unions who are expected to extend their support are All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE) and National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW).
