Bihar Government Compensating Farmers Affected From Yaas Cyclone

The Bihar government is compensating farmers who have been affected by the Yaas cyclone. For this, the government has sought applications from farmers before September 12. This is being done under Krishi Input Anudaan Yojana.

The government would compensate farmers in 16 districts

The Bihar government is compensating farmers who have been affected by the Yaas cyclone. For this, the government has sought applications from farmers before September 12. This is being done under Krishi Input Anudan Yojana.

The scheme would provide a small respite to farmers in approximately 16 districts in Bihar. The Bihar Agriculture Department has invited applications from farmers whose crops have been destroyed by the Yaas cyclone. The last date to register is September 12. The Yaas cyclone had affected 102 blocks in 16 districts. More than 33 percent of crops in about 73085.77 hectares of land have suffered damage.  

Who Is Eligible?  

All registered farmers will benefit from this initiative. Farmers whose crops have been damaged by the cyclone would receive at least Rs 1,000 compensation. Farmers from these districts shall be compensated — Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Arwal, West Champaran, Katihar, Arariya, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Saharsa, and Madhepura.

How Much Is the Compensation? 

The compensation for non irrigated crop areas would be Rs 6,800. Similarly, compensation for irrigated areas would be Rs 13,500. For traditional crops like sugarcane, the compensation would be Rs 1800 per hectare. A farmer would receive compensation for only two hectares of land. 

How to Apply?  

Cyclone affected farmers can seek compensation by registering. The Bihar Agriculture Department has started a helpline for farmers. They can contact the toll free number, 1800180155 or can contact the district agriculture authorities. Yaas was a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm. It made landfall in Odisha and caused huge damage at several places.
