Chouhan Calls for Strict Action Against Fake Fertilizers, Seeds, and Pesticides
Strict action will be taken against the distribution of fake fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides to protect farmers' interests. A nationwide campaign will ensure quality agricultural inputs and effective legal measures against offenders.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has highlighted the urgent need to ensure high-quality fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides for farmers across India. During a department-wise review meeting at Krishi Bhawan, Chouhan directed officials to take stringent action against those involved in the manufacture and distribution of substandard agricultural inputs.
Chouhan expressed concern over the ineffective prosecution of offenders in several states, highlighting how many guilty people either go unpunished or face minimal consequences. He stated that this lack of accountability encourages offenders, causing significant losses for farmers. To address the issue, Chouhan announced plans to discuss the matter with state Chief Ministers and Agriculture Ministers.
The minister stressed that the upcoming crop season makes it important to resolve the issue quickly. “Farmers are often victims of poor-quality inputs that lead to damaged crops and economic losses. As a responsible representative, I am committed to ensuring that they receive only the best products,” Chouhan remarked during the meeting. He directed officials to create a comprehensive action plan for a nationwide campaign aimed at ensuring quality control of agricultural inputs.
Chouhan also underlined the importance of collaboration among departments to combat this issue effectively. He instructed that a joint campaign involving state governments and central agencies be launched without delay. The campaign will focus on raising awareness, monitoring product quality, and taking strict legal action against defaulters.
Additionally, Chouhan called for farmer feedback to strengthen the campaign, stating, “Farmers are directly affected by these substandard products. Their insights are crucial for devising practical solutions and ensuring accountability.”
The minister reiterated his commitment to protecting the interests of millions of farmers by addressing those responsible for these harmful practices.
