Climate Resilient Crops: Farmers-Scientists Meet Held at ICAR-NBPGR Issapur Farm

A Farmers-Scientists Meet was held at Issapur Experimental farm, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), New Delhi under the theme “Climate Resilient Agriculture” for creating climate awareness amongst farmers.

In the meeting that was held on 28 September 2021, Dr. Kuldeep Tripathi, OIC of Issapur Farm, Division of Germplasm Evaluation, ICAR-NBPGR briefed the participants about various activities being carried out by the Bureau for improving agriculture in India.

While addressing the farmers, Dr. RK Gautam, Head DGE, ICAR-NBPGR said that climate change has hampered the crop productivity in the past few decades. He asked farmers to adopt climate-resilient varieties and crops so as to avoid damages caused because of climate change.

Besides, the expert talks on crop production and management was organized in view of the coming Rabi season. Dr Gayacharan (Chickpea), Dr. Ishwar Singh (Mustard) and Dr KP Mohapatra (Minor Fruits and Multi-purpose Tree species) were key speakers of the session.

Farmers actively took part in all the discussions and also appreciated the efforts made by ICAR-NBPGR in agrobiodiversity management. At last, seeds of vegetable crops and planting materials (Tulsi and Aloe vera) were given to farmers.

About NBPGR

The National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) is a unit under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Department of Agricultural Research & Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. It was established in 1976 as a full-fledged Institute. NBPGR has its headquarters in Pusa, New Delhi.  The Bureau draws guidelines from the Crop Science Division of ICAR, Institute Management Committee, Research Advisory Committee, and Institute Research Council & Germplasm Advisory Committees.

It has 5 Divisions, 3 units and an experimental farm at its Headquarters in New Delhi and 10 Regional Stations located in different phytogeographical zones of the country.  In addition, an All India Coordinated Research Network Project on Under-utilized crops are located in the Bureau.
