Cold Wave Conditions to Continue in Several Parts of North India; Heavy Snowfall in Shimla, J&K

The entire North India is under the grip of severe cold waves. Continuous heavy snowfall and rainfall have created hindrance in the day to day life of common people across many states. Many parts of Himachal Pradesh received heavy rains while state capital Shimla received fresh snowfall on Sunday. Several parts of Jammu Kashmir, Sikkim also witnessed a 4 cm heavy snowfall since Sunday morning. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has predicted of dense fog to very dense fog over Punjab, West Rajasthan, East Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, South Assam & Meghalaya, and Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura in the morning hours of 17th December.

Delhi Weather

The national capital was blanketed with dense today morning. Due to chilled weather and cold waves from hilly regions, the temperature of Delhi has dropped down to a single digit. Meanwhile, the Delhi air quality index is reported to be ‘Very Unhealthy’ which stands at 214 at 9.00 AM on Monday.

As per reports, 24 cm heavy snowfall lashed over Dalhousie of Himachal Pradesh while 170 tourists were trapped.  “A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from 18th December night onwards which is likely to cause isolated to scattered rain/snow over the same region. This Western Disturbance is not likely to cause any significant weather over the plains of northwest India”, said the weather department in its latest forecast.

As per yesterday’s report, rain and thundershowers observed at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. On the other hand, very dense fog observed in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and East Uttar Pradesh and moderate fog in isolated pockets over West Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

Maximum temperatures were reported appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Odisha; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C), Telangana,  Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Assam & Meghalaya, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over Vidarbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal while minimum temperatures were markedly above normal ( 5.1°C or more) at most places over East Madhya Pradesh; Jharkhand, West Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Telangana.
