Cold Wave in North India to worsen in the weekend; Delhi put on 'Orange Alert'

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will experience moderate rainfall with thunderstorm in the weekend, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai said in its weather forecast.

Moreover, Cold Wave to Severe Cold Wave conditions at many places are likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi; at a few places over West Uttar Pradesh; at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and Cold Wave conditions at isolated places over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter.

Very Severe Cold Wave Conditions Alert over These Places

Cold Day conditions at a few places with Severe Cold Day at isolated places very likely over East Uttar Pradesh and Cold Day conditions at isolated places very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and decrease thereafter. IMD also issued orange alert in Delhi for next two days.

Dense Fog likely over These Pockets

Dense Fog in isolated pockets very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during next 24 hours.

Ground Frost at isolated places very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during next 24 hours.
Strong surface wind speed reaching 10-20 kmph very likely to prevail over parts of Northwest India during next 24 hours.

"Moderate thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur over Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur and Thiruvarur districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal area during next 3 hours (issued at 10 pm)," it said.

Maximum & Minimum Temperature

Maximum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Konkan & Goa; at a few places over Telangana; at isolated places over Odisha, Interior Karnataka and Kerala while minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over Coastal Karnataka; at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha.
