Cold Wave Sweeps Entire North India; Delhi, Haryana, Punjab Wakes Up to Dense Fog

Entire North India is under the grip of severe cold waves leading to a drastic drop in the day as well as night temperatures. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued severe cold day conditions at isolated pockets over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 24 hours. Due to the persistence of low-level clouds over the region, cold day to severe cold day conditions are very likely to continue over East Uttar Pradesh and neighborhood during the next 24 hours, says weather department in its latest forecast.

Delhi Weather

The visibility dropped further to 100 meters in Delhi (Palam Observatory) on Thursday morning, says Skymet reports. The adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad have also observed poor visibility levels falling to 200 meters during early morning hours, say reports.

The temperatures too have been achieving new heights every day and have dropped by 2.5 to 3 degrees Celsius, intensifying cold day conditions during the last 24 hours. On the other hand, Srinagar recorded 3 degrees Celsius yesterday along with heavy snowfall across the valley. All the schools and colleges of the state Uttar Pradesh will be closed from 19^th to 20^th December due to the severe cold day conditions prevails in the state, says govt official.

The layer of fog has covered a large part of Northwest India, resulting in 0-meter visibility over North Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab. While, it has been recorded between 100 and 200 meters in major areas of Punjab, Haryana and adjoining West Uttar Pradesh today morning, says sky mate.

Less than 300 meters of visibility has been observed in Amritsar. Meanwhile, moderate to dense fog has dropped visibility to less than 200 meters in Patiala and Hisar.

Yesterday, Severe Cold Day conditions were observed in many pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and in isolated pockets over Madhya Pradesh. As per reports, maximum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Konkan & Goa; Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Kerala while minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Odisha, Telangana, and Madhya Maharashtra.
