Conference-cum-Krishi Unnati Mela on approaches for doubling farmer’s income held in Arunachal Pradesh

ICAR Research Complex for North-Eastern Hill Region, Andhra Pradesh Centre, Basar and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namsai jointly organized a National Conference-cum-Krishi Unnati Mela on a focal theme “Approaches for doubling the farmers income - the road ahead for farmers prosperity” with the financial support of National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Itanagar and Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai on 17-18 November, 2018.   

Shri Chow Tewa Mein, the Chief Guest and MLA, Chowkham expressed his concerns about the current situation of agriculture in the state with special reference to Namsai district and applauded the initiatives of ICAR-RC for NEH Region & KVK Namsai for organizing such a mega event for the welfare of farmers in the region. 

Emphasizing on strengthening the marketing facilities in the region to enhance the farmers’ income, Shri Chow Zignu Namchoom, the Guest of Honor and MLA, Namsai emphasized on the efforts of ICAR, AP Centre, Basar and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namsai to initiate different approaches that helped to double-up the farmers’ income by 2022. Altogether, more than 1200 numbers of farmers from different districts SRLD, Shillong, FPCs and SHGs registered their participations in Farmers-Scientists Interaction organized with ICAR Scientists. 

The other dignitaries namely Dr. B.C. Deka, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Umiam; Dr. H. Kalita, Organizing Secretary, Joint Director, ICAR RC NEH Region, AP Centre, Basar and Dr. Tapasya Raghav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Namsai were also present during the occasion. 

The School of Livelihood and Rural Development, Shillong and KVK, Namsai also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Processing, Value addition and Marketing of different important underutilized spices and medicinal plants produced abundantly in the region. 

On the second day of the conference, presided over by Dr. N. Prakash, Director, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya in the presence of Guest of Honor, Prof. V.K. Kawatra, Vice Chancellor, Arunachal University of Studies, a scientific and technical sessions comprising of 11 themes focused on “Approaches for doubling the farmers income- the road ahead for farmers prosperity” was also organized. 

Around 220 scientists, Ph.D. scholars and students registered their participation in scientific deliberations in the forms of lectures, oral and poster presentations, etc.
