Congress selects Kamal Nath as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh

After two days discussion, the Congress party has finally selected Shri Kamal Nath as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. A tweet by ANI mentioned that there will be no Deputy Chief Minister in the State.

After two days discussion, the Congress party has finally selected Shri Kamal Nath as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. A tweet by ANI mentioned that there will be no Deputy Chief Minister in the State.

Party chief Rahul Gandhi finalised the name was after conducting several meetings with Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, the other front runner. Deliberations were also held with former Congress President Sonia Gandhi as well as party observer AK Antony.

Kamal Nath, who was the former Union Minister known for his organisational skills, had a tough fight with 47-year old Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Junior Minister and member of parliament from Guna.

On the other hand, Nath’s possible selection also brought heated responses from the Akali Dal which alleges he had a role in the 1985 anti-Sikh unrest.

Nath is a nine-time Lok Sabha MP for Chhindwara who had handled numerous portfolios including environment, road transport, urban development and parliamentary affairs during different period as Union Minister since 1991.

Mayawati along with Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav announced their parties' support to the winning Congress party in Madhya Pradesh. Nath when asked about support from the BSP and SP said, "This is unconditional support and they have not asked for anything in return."
