Cyclone Alert! THESE States Are Likely to Witness Thunderstorm & Cyclonic Activity

The cyclonic storm hovering over the southern Andaman Sea has the potential to become a Low-Pressure Area today, two separate systems gave abundant rains to east and northeast India as well as several portions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, on Thursday. 

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is highly probable over the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the next five days, under the influence of an east-west trough coming from north-western Madhya Pradesh to Meghalaya and south-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal in lower tropospheric levels.

During the next five days, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is anticipated over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speeds reaching up to 40-50 km/h) over the surrounding region. 

Over the next five days, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty wind gusts are very plausible over the regions of Kerala, Mahe, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Secluded rain activity over the coastal and north interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana due to a trough/wind discontinuity over peninsular India in lower tropospheric levels is also very likely. 

Heavy Rainfall Prevail Over Andaman and the Nicobar Islands

Heavy rainfall at isolated locations is very likely over the Nicobar Islands, and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations is extremely likely across Andaman and Nicobar Islands between May 6 and 8.

Stormy weather with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kph, gusting to 60 mph, is very likely to prevail over the Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast and the east-central Bay of Bengal on Thursday to stormy weather with wind speeds reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph likely to prevail over central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on May 8.
