The Deep Depression (remnant of Super Cyclonic Storm 'AMPHAN') moved slightly northwards with a speed of 07 kmph during past 06 hours, further weakened into a Depression and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST of the 21st May, 2020 over Bangladesh near Lat. 25.4°N and Long. 89.6°E about 350 km north-northeast of Kolkata, 70 km south-southwest of Dhubri and 50 km east-southeast of Rangpur (Bangladesh). It is very likely to continue to move north-northeastwards and weaken further into a Well-marked Low during next 12 hours, says the IMD weather forecast report of morning bulletin.

At least 72 people have died in West Bengal due to cyclone Amphan, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday. Moreover, the rains and heavy winds caused massive damage to crops and infrastructure in Odisha too. A team of Union home ministry will visit the states to evaluate the damages done by the cyclone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengal and Odisha Today

As per report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengal and Odisha today for an aerial survey of the ground situation after cyclone Amphan created total havoc in the state. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked the Prime Minister to visit the state and inspect the damage, which she said was in the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore.

Squally wind (speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) very likely over West Assam & Meghalaya till today evening and gradual reduction thereafter.

Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of today): at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; at a few places over Gangetic West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Kerala & Mahe and at isolated places over Bihar, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Maximum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam while minimum temperatures are above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Rayalaseema; at a few places over West Rajasthan and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.
