Heavy Rain Alert! Cyclone Asani to Worsen into Deep Depression in Next Few Hours

According to the India Meteorological Department, cyclone is forecasted to intensify into a deep depression over the next 24 hours. The weather Agency said in a tweet today, "At 11:30 a.m. IST today, a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman Sea was centred near 10.4°N/92.8°E, about 140 kilometres north of Car Nicobar and 140 kilometres south of Port Blair. During the next 24 hours, the storm will move nearly northward along and off the A&N Islands, intensifying into a Deep Depression."

On Sunday afternoon, Indian Coast Guard ships were shepherding fishermen out to sea and issuing weather warnings ahead of Cyclone Asani.

The India Meteorological Department announced today that a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal's south-east is expected to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by March 21.

In an official statement issued about two days ago, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that one National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been deployed in Port Blair and that additional teams are ready and will be airlifted if necessary.

The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is prepared with sufficient emergency supplies and measures to protect the population and restore infrastructure, according to the Ministry.

Furthermore, fishing, tourism, and shipping operations have been halted. Fishermen have been told to return home. The Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard are all on alert.

The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that central ministries are ready to assist if needed.

According to the official, the Union Home Secretary has directed Central Ministries and Agencies to keep a close eye on the situation and keep in touch with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The first cyclone of the year is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal around March 21, according to the IMD.
