Cyclone Mandous Update: Extremely Heavy Rainfall Likely Over Southern States Till Tuesday, Holiday Declared!
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala on December 12 and 13, announced the IMD on Sunday evening.
Cyclone Mandous Latest Update
On Sunday, December 11, the India Meteorology Department (IMD) forecasted that Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh in the south would see significant rainfall.
This is because of the cyclone Mandous' remnant weather system, which generated rain in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry after it made landfall on Friday night close to Mahabalipuram.
Holiday Declared
Due to the anticipated rainfall, holidays have been issued in the TN Kancheepuram district's Kancheepuram Taluk and the Tiruvallur district's Uthukottai Taluk. Due to the rain the previous night, the inhabitants of Coimbatore woke on Monday to a heavy and blinding fog.
"Rainfall warning: Heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka & south Coastal Andhra Pradesh today and over Kerala & Mahe during 11th-13th December 2022," the IMD stated in its forecast on Monday. "Thereafter, rainfall activity over the region will decrease," it added.
"Squally weather (wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph) extremely likely over southeast & adjoining east-central Arabian Sea and along & off Kerala-Karnataka coast during 11th-13th and over east-central & adjoining the southeast Arabian Sea during 14th -15th December 2022," it added.
Warning Issued for Fishermen
As a result, fishermen were warned not to go out in the southeast and adjacent east-central Arabian Sea, along with the coasts of Kerala and Karnataka, from November 11 to November 13, and over the east-central & adjoining southeast Arabian Sea from November 14 to November 15.
A moderate rain notice has been issued for a few districts near Chennai, including Walajabad, Kancheepuram, Tiruporur, and Vandalur, according to the Regional Meteorological Department in Chennai. A few more districts have also received a light rain alert.
A cyclonic circulation is anticipated to enter the south Andaman Sea around December 13th, 2022, according to the IMD. On December 14 and 15, Andaman & Nicobar can expect widespread rainfall with a few isolated, strong showers as a result of it.
