Over 1,000 Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flats in the Higher Income Group (HIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories will be available to the Delhiites after a gap of almost 10 years as the authority is ready to launch a housing scheme that will offer a total of 10,300 newly built flats in Narela and Vasant Kunj.

The housing scheme was approved early this week at an authority meeting chaired by lieutenant governor (LG) of Delhi Anil Baijal.

Out of the 10,300 residential flats, 8383 are in the Lower Income Group (LIG) category, 579 MIG, 448 HIG and 960 in the EWS group. All the HIG as well as MIG flats are in Vasant Kunj area that became a DDA colony in the early 90’s and now has turned out to be one of the Delhi’s most sought-after localities.

The expected cost of the HIG flats will be from Rs 1.5 -2 crores and the price of MIG flats will be from Rs 50 -75 lakhs. The LIG flats would cost something around Rs 25 lakhs. A DDA representative told TOI that “These flats are under construction and the work of water supply & sewage treatment plant is going right now which will be completed by July 2019”.

For the very first time, allotment of DDA flats that includes the process of application, submission, payments and returns will be done completely online. Tarun Kapoor, the DDA vice-chairman said, “We will accept applications online only. And for this, we will set up facility centres to help people fill the applications online and do other financial transactions. We will start the scheme by 2nd March and will soon notify about the important dates”.

DDA has made a decision to do away with an important clause under which people who already have a DDA flat could not apply for latest schemes. Kapoor said “Now, people who have a DDA flat can also apply for the scheme but their flat size has to be up to 67 sq mts. We have also scrapped the 5-year lock in period, except for the EWS group”.

Furthermore the process of allotment of DDA flats will be completed prior to the election code of conduct coming into effect and Delhi Development Authority will begin putting advertisements regarding the new housing scheme from the 1st week of March 2019. But, the final launch date has not yet been finalised.

DDA will be selling 960 flats for the EWS in Pocket V, Block-A, Sector G-7/G-8 in Narela area. A DDA spokesperson told that “In order to give some relief to the economically weaker sections, it has considerably cut the cost of its EWS flats under the latest housing scheme by allowing waiver of departmental charges and interest during the construction period”. The spokesperson also added that the cost will be reduced by a minimum of Rs 2.5 lakh /flat.

The last time when DDA had put on sale such high number of HIG as well as MIG flats was around 9 years back i.e. in 2010. At that time, 2300 HIG, MIG flats were put on sale in Dwarka, Mukherjee Nagar, Rohini, Motia Khan and Pitampura. In 2014, DDA offered 496 MIG flats in Narela, but around 300 flats were returned by people citing poor civic infrastructure.
