Delhi saw tremendous rainfall on Saturday as a first taste of the upcoming winter season, resulting in waterlogging and severe traffic jams in several parts of the city.

The India Meteorological Department says the weather won’t be forgiving today either as incessant rain is to follow till Sunday night as well. However, it is likely that from Monday on, Delhi might get relief from continuous rainfall.

Saturday in Delhi saw slow-moving traffic and consequent traffic congestion calls especially on the Zakhira flyover, Najafgarh road towards Bahadurgarh, and on Ring Road from Raja Garden Chowk to Dhaula Kuan loop.  There were several complaints of congested traffic near Anand Vihar, Red Fort, Mathur Road, and Chhawla areas.

A senior police officer reassured that adequate traffic police personnel have been deployed on the field to make sure of smooth traffic movement in the city, as per PTI. The authorities have, however, cautioned motorists to look out for stagnant water in low-lying areas such as under flyovers.

In a tweet, Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory, saying, “Traffic is affected on New Rohtak Road in the carriageway from Zakhira towards Anand Parbat due to waterlogging near Anand Parbat red light. Commuters are advised to avoid the stretch.”

On the bright side, the incessant rain has improved Delhi’s air quality as the capital bagged a rare “good” category in the air quality index.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, and east Rajasthan for two days, reports ANI.
