e-Shram Portal: Can Children Register and Get Rs. 500- Rs 1000?

On August 26, the Central Government introduced e-Shram Portal to crores of workers of the country working in the unorganized sectors. The government launched this portal keeping in mind the welfare of the workers.

The Ministry of Labour & Employment, one of the oldest Ministries of the Government of India developed e-Shram portal last year to maintain a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW), that is seeded with the Aadhaar.

The portal contains details of name, occupation, address, occupation type, educational qualification, skill types, and family details etc. for the optimum realization of their employability & extend the benefits of the social security schemes to them. It is the first-ever national database of unorganized workers that includes migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers, etc.

Who can register at eShram Portal?

Any individual satisfying following condition can register on the portal:

  • An unorganized worker (UW).

  • His age should be between 16 to 59 years.

  • Someone who is not a member of EPFO/ESIC or NPS (Govt. funded)

Can children register at e-Shram portal?

Yes, children who are 16 years old or above can register and take benefit from this government scheme.

Documents required for e-Shram registration

The following documents will be required to register on the portal:

  • Aadhar Number

  • Mobile number linked with Aadhaar.

  • Savings Bank Account Number with IFSC code

Who is Unorganised Worker?

Any worker who is a home based-worker, self-employed worker or a wage worker in the unorganised sector including a worker in the organised sector who is not a member of ESIC or EPFO or not a Govt. employee is called an Unorganised Worker.

Government aims to connect 38 crores with the scheme

During the Coronavirus pandemic, crores of laborers lost their jobs in the country and they were forced to go back to their homes. That time, the government started e-shramik scheme for these people and to take it forward, the government developed e-Shram portal. So far more than 26 crore laborers have joined this scheme. And the government aims to connect 38 crore laborers of the country to the portal.
