E-way bill should be extended across the country: President, Delhi Goods Transport Organization

Rajendra Kapoor, President of Delhi Goods Transport Organization, has demanded extension of the valid period of e-way bill applicable under Goods and Services Tax (GST). According to him, the valid duration of the first e-way bill was 100 km per 24 hours, which has now been increased to 200 km.

Transporters are facing a lot of difficulty in transporting goods from one place to another in such a short period because it is not possible to unload the loading of goods again within 200 hours by going up to 200 km. He said that under the provisions of GST, the shopkeeper issues part A of the e-way bill as he sold the goods and when the goods are loaded into the car, part-B of the bill is issued.

Its valid duration has been 24 hours at 200 km, while during this time; the warehouse of goods transporters loaded my car arrives. Then, proceeding to the destination, loaded on trucks.

Rajendra Kapoor said that right now, while the farmer’s movement is going on the borders of Delhi-Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, the booking of goods for other states is very less, and then it takes one to two days for an average truck to collect 10 to 12 tonnes, in many cities like Delhi, entry of commercial vehicles is restricted during the day. In such cases, transport and unloading of up to 200 km within 24 hours are impossible. In such a situation, the heavy penalty is being imposed on the transporters by calling the bill illegal.

He informed that soon the transporter will meet the high officials of the GST department and address the issue.
