EAM S. Jaishankar Launches ‘Tulsi Ghat Restoration Project’ in Uganda
During his visit to Uganda's Kampala, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched the 'Tulsi Ghat Restoration Project' of Varanasi on Monday.
Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar, who is on a three-day visit to Uganda, praised the Overseas Friends of the BJP-Uganda initiative to help beautify the world's oldest living metropolis. "Living in Nile country, their dedication to a Ganga ghat reflects the convergence of our two cultures."
The preservation of Varanasi's heritage highlights India's cultural renaissance. "This has far-reaching global implications," he remarked. "I am confident that many more members of the Indian community in Uganda will continue to visit Varanasi and contribute to its development," he added.
Earlier that day, he met Ugandan President Yoweri K Museveni at his farm in Rwakitura and congratulated the country on accepting the Non-Aligned Movement chairship. (NAM). "It gives me great pleasure to pay a visit to Ugandan President @KagutaMuseveni at his farm in Rwakitura." PM @narendramodi's personal greetings were conveyed. "I appreciate his advice on strengthening our traditional and long-standing ties," Jaishankar tweeted.
He also spoke about trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, defense, health, digital, and agricultural cooperation. "Discussed cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, defense, health, digital, and agriculture. Congratulations to Uganda on assuming the presidency of the NAM, and reaffirmed our strong coordination at multilateral forums including the United Nations," Jaishankar tweeted.
Uganda was elected to lead the Non-Aligned Movement on behalf of Africa from 2022 to 2025. The position of NAM chair alternates every three years during summit sessions. The movement's chair is aided by both the outgoing and incoming chairs. This structure, according to the movement, depicts its past, present, and future.
During his visit to Uganda, Jaishankar will hold delegation-level talks with his Ugandan counterpart, with the goal of strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. In addition, he is set to meet with Ugandan counterpart General Jeje Odongo, call on the country's leadership, and meet with other Ministers, according to an official release from the Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday.
Jaishankar will be in Mozambique from April 13 to 15. "This will be the first visit by an Indian External Affairs Minister to the Republic of Mozambique," according to the MEA announcement. During his visit, he will meet with Mozambique's top officials and co-chair the Joint Commission Meeting's 5th Session alongside Mozambican Foreign Minister Veronica Macamo. The EAM is anticipated to meet with numerous other Ministers and Assembly representatives from Mozambique.
