Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel criticized the Narendra Modi government on Friday, accusing it of reducing farmers' income while increasing agricultural costs during its nine-year rule. Baghel's comments came in response to the central government's recent announcement of a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce.

Baghel pointed out that during the Congress-led UPA regime from 2004 to 2014, the MSP for paddy saw a significant increase of 131 percent. However, under the Modi government, the increase has been a mere 61-62 percent, according to Baghel's statement to reporters at Civil Lines Helipad.

The Chief Minister further alleged that the cost of agriculture in India has doubled, while farmers' income has been halved. He highlighted the rising prices of diesel, fertilizer, and agricultural equipment, which have added to the production costs for farmers. Baghel expressed concern over the growing disparity between the expenses incurred by farmers and the income they generate from their agricultural activities.

Baghel also responded to allegations made by former Chief Minister Raman Singh, who claimed that development work had only taken place in certain regions. Baghel dismissed these accusations, stating that corruption was prevalent even in the distribution of ration cards and slippers during the tenure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He criticized Singh's administration, pointing out instances of bridge collapses and the repetitive tendering for damaged infrastructure in his constituency.

In regards to Union Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh's derogatory remark referring to bribery, Baghel condemned the statement. He stated that such comments were tantamount to mocking the people who affectionately use the term "kaka" to address him.
