On the occasion of Kisan Diwas, Union minister Rajnath Singh sent his greetings via twitter to the farmers of the country.
This year, Kisan Diwas is being celebrated amid the ongoing farmers protest against Government’s three farm bills. The Annadatta’s will skip a meal today (23rd December 2020) in a symbolic protest.
Government and farmers’ meeting hit a roadblock after the 5th round of talks as the farmers told they want complete repeal of the three farm bills. Agitators said unless the Government concedes, there will be no further meetings.
The Union agriculture ministry has called the farmers for the 6th round of talks the date of which would be decided by the Annadatta’s.
Rajnath Singh tweeted, “Today, on the occasion of Farmers Day, I greet all the contributors of the nation. They have provided the country with food security. Some farmers are agitation against the agricultural laws. The Centre is talking to them with full sensitivity and I hope that they will withdraw their movement soon”.
Underlining that the farm laws won’t harm the farmers, Singh wrote, “Chaudhary Charan Singh wanted farmers’ income to increase, their crops to get remunerative prices & their honour to be protected. PM Narendra Modi got inspiration from him and took several steps for the welfare of farmers. He will never let the interests of farmers to get hurt.”
Singh further wrote “Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singhji was a pioneer among the farmer leaders of the nation. The country will always remember his contribution”.
It must be noted that Narendra Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister will meet with farmer groups in the afternoon as the Centre tries drumming support for the farm bills. The farmer NGOs are likely to lend a "conditional support" to the farm laws, according to sources.
