FoodTech Kerala, the state's premier food processing and packaging expo, will be held in north Kerala for the first time alongside HotelTech Kerala, the Horeca sector's platform. Both editions will take place from May 20 to 22 at the Calicut Trade Centre.

FoodTech and HotelTech Kerala will be a three-day twin-expo that will provide an interface for manufacturers of food processing machines, packaging equipment, and suppliers of ingredients and flavours for small and large food processing units in the state's northern region, according to the organizers.

HotelTech Kerala will focus on the Horeca industry, which includes hotels, bakeries, restaurants, and catering. Apart from cleaning equipment, it will include hotel and bakery equipment, linen and furnishings, hotel ware, and commercial kitchen equipment.

The industrial pavilion, which will feature 20 SME units and is sponsored by the Department of Industries and Commerce, will be the highlight of this edition.

According to the organizers, more than 50 exhibitors will display their products and services. The Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP), Coffee Board, Coconut Development Board, Department of Tourism, Malabar Tourism Society, Greater Malabar Initiative, Bakers Association Kerala (BAKE), Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHRA), and Confederation of All India Traders-Kerala Chapter have all endorsed and supported the event.

The presence of food processing and packaging equipment suppliers, as well as hospitality and bakery sector suppliers, buyers, and importers will add a new dimension to the expo by bringing together local buyers and national suppliers on a single platform, according to the organizers.

Food is processed to make it more edible, palatable, and safe, as well as to preserve it so that it can be eaten after the harvest season. Food processing is also a tool that provides more variety in foods, increasing consumer choice.
