Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that the free power supply for the agricultural sector would continue. He emphasized that the farmers were not against fixing metres to their agricultural pumpsets. There has been an increasing realization among them that metres will help them get better power services.
The CM also alleged that opposition parties were trying to create a controversy over the fixing of metres. He assured that he had studied the activities of the agriculture department, other related departments, and a number of officials. He further said that all measures have been taken to ensure free power supply to the agri-sector and that so far there hasn’t been any protest by the farmers as they have been promised the continuation of free supply.
He also highlighted the importance of fixing metres. It would help farmers in getting better services and also help the officials in keeping track of power supply so as to immediately be able to make any necessary changes immediately. The metres would be fixed without any cost to the farmers.
The CM also gave instructions to the officials to find out the reasons behind transformer failures. He asked them to find out the main causes behind this and also take appropriate actions.
If a transformer fails and it is replaced without any knowledge of the reason behind its failure, the new transformer is most likely to fail as well.
He also asked the officials to encourage farmers to grow millet instead of paddy in areas where there was no canal for irrigation.
He also asked them to make farmers aware of organic farming and encourage them to apply it whenever possible. He said that the focus must be on areas where the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is high in order to reduce the use of chemicals.
