Uttarakhand-based sole Indian agricultural university to appear in the QS World University Rankings 2023 is Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, which holds the 361st rank globally. One of the 41 Indian universities that have earned a spot in the 2023 global ranking and are based in Pantnagar is Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology.

C. Agrawal, Director General (Agricultural Education) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, commented on the success by saying that it is unquestionably due to the focused efforts of Pantnagar University's National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP), which has brought Pantnagar to the fore as a leading international university.

In a statement, Agrawal claimed that Pantnagar's inclusion in the QS rankings "has shown that, if given the chance, the university deserves to stand among the top MERU universities in the country under the National Education Policy 2020."

A K Shukla, the vice-chancellor of the G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, stated, "The remarkable achievements of the NAHEP project is the major reason behind this pride, with which about 4,000 students and 350 teachers made a significant contribution by receiving many pieces of training and facilities." The statement continued, "Increased global network, increased participation of foreign scholars, significantly improved student learning outcomes, systematic integration of online teaching structures and skills in the classroom teaching, and quality of research papers are the main factors that supported the G B Pant University of Agriculture to emerge at a global level."

Govind Ballabh Pant University, often known as Pantnagar University or GBPUAT, is a public university that was established in 1960 on the American land-grant model. Jawaharlal Nehru, India's then-prime minister, announced the establishment of Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Institution, the country's first agricultural university.

GBPUAT has nine faculties and 14 specialist research centers and was praised as a "harbinger of the green revolution" by Nobel Peace Prize winner and agronomist Norman Borlaug. More than 200 new varieties of seeds and plants have been developed by its researchers, who also made significant contributions to the production of high-yielding seeds. Their present research efforts are focused on organic farming and biological pest management. The International Journal of Basic and Applied Agricultural Research is published by the university.

With one teacher for every six students in 2017, it has an extraordinarily high staff-to-student ratio. Undergraduate courses include a compulsory community service element, with 240 hours of work counting towards degrees.

London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is an expert in international higher education. On Thursday, it published the 19th edition of the list of top international universities. The QS World University Rankings this year are the largest ever with over 1,418 institutions spread over 100 locations, up from 1,300 last year.

A total of 41 Indian institutions were included in the 19th edition of the QS rankings, of which 12 showed improvements, 12 remained stable, 10 declined while seven universities are new entries.
