Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, popularly known as GATE is an examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Before starting their GATE preparation, aspirants must know and understand the latest syllabus. They should take note of all the topics in every subject from their GATE stream.

1. Know the latest syllabus and vastness of topics and subjects
Before starting your preparation, you must first know and understand the latest syllabus. They should take note of all the topics in every subject from their GATE stream.

2. Collect the right exam preparation material
Selecting right material is the key point for cracking any competitive exam. Aspirants should collect 1-2 good books for each subject rather than consulting a lot of books which may lead to confusion.
3. Prepare a solid study plan
One should create a practical preparation plan depending on the number of months left for GATE and adhere to it without fail, according to many toppers,
Their study plan should cover all topics/subjects, giving sufficient time to each of them, and also include revision and practice time.
4. Revise and Practice is the key for GATE
Not just for GATE, but for any exam revision and practice is the door to success. So once you complete your syllabus, keep revising and practising again and again.
5. Preparation strategy in last 1-2 months
Aspirants must cover the entire syllabus two months before the exam and dedicate the last 1-2 months for revision and practice. Don’t start any new topic in this peak time.
One must also solve previous question papers, mock tests, quizzes, etc. regularly as it will help them recall/revise concepts and analyze their performance as well.
