GIS 2023: UP Govt Signs MoUs with Investors from USA, Japan, Netherlands & Singapore

According to an official statement, companies signed agreements worth Rs 15,000 crore with the team visiting Japan, Rs 8,500 crore in Singapore, and Rs 600 crore in the Netherlands.

Ahead of GIS 2023, the UP government signed several MoUs with investors during the roundtable.

According to the state government of Uttar Pradesh, the state is on its way to becoming one with enormous potential and new opportunities for foreign investors. The Uttar Pradesh government delegation held road shows and business meetings in several countries on Thursday.

Notably, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sent eight teams for road shows in 18 countries to achieve the Rs 10 lakh crore investment target through the Global Investors Summit (GIS) to be held between February 10 and 12, 2023. Several foreign companies in San Francisco (US), Tokyo (Japan), Singapore, and the Netherlands approached Team Yogi with investment offers. The team also signed several Memorandums of Understanding during the round table conference.

The UP delegation, along with Jal Shakti Minister Swatantradev Singh, attended a round table conference in Singapore organized by Enterprise Singapore. More than 20 major corporations attended the event, which included extensive discussions about investment in Uttar Pradesh. Investment in sectors such as defense, basic infrastructure, education, and urban development was discussed at the meeting.  According to the official statement, MoUs covering investments worth Rs 8,500 crore were also signed in collaboration with Enterprise Singapore in various sectors.

Further, MoUs were also signed between Western Sydney University Parramatta and Gautam Buddha University (Noida-Greater Noida) for cooperation and investment in areas such as urban agriculture, urban forestry, greening in cities, water conservation, and student exchange programmes. The Indian delegation also met with Singapore's Minister of Trade and Industry.  The delegation was led by Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh and Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel, who met with Kunihiro Funakoshi of Sysmex Corporation, a leader in hematology in the Japanese pharmaceutical industry.

According to the UP government statement, Sysmex already has a presence in India and has expressed a desire to expand its investment in medical device parks. The delegation discussed pharmaceutical advancement with Hiroyuki Akatsuka, associate director of the Osaka Prefectural Government's Life Science Industry Division, and Masafumi Yamagishi, MD, Kansai Pharmaceutical Industries Association, with investment in the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster. Previously, the delegation signed a Rs 5,000-crore Memorandum of Understanding in Tokyo with Akihiko Yamashiro of One World Corporation to develop waste management facilities in Gautam Buddhanagar.

Nissenken Quality Evaluation Center signed a Rs 10,000 crore MoU with Takeshi Endo of Tokyo Laboratory for the textile park. This will employ 10,000 people. The Uttar Pradesh government delegation, led by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Information Technology Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, met Peter Potman, Deputy Director General of External Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs in the Netherlands, and discussed cooperation and partnership in the food processing, agriculture, and dairy sectors.

The delegation welcomed the Netherlands as a partner country and invited them to the Investors Summit, which will be held in Lucknow from February 10 to 12, 2023, and the G20 Summit in India. The delegation also met with Indian Ambassador Reenat Sandhu at India House in The Hague to discuss the strengths of Indian and Dutch businesses and to explore opportunities for collaboration to strengthen bilateral relations between Uttar Pradesh and the Netherlands.

In addition, the delegation paid a visit to World Horticentre, where they met with Desh Ramnath, Director Business Development (India). The delegation invited him to take advantage of Uttar Pradesh's abundant investment opportunities in agriculture, food processing, and horticulture. The delegation, led by Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and Animal Husbandry Minister Dharmapal Singh, travelled to Canada to visit the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

The Consulate General of India in Vancouver organized a roundtable conference and networking event for the delegation in collaboration with the British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE). On this occasion, representatives from British Columbia were invited to invest in and participate in the Uttar Pradesh education sector. On Wednesday, the delegation signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Canadian companies worth Rs 12 billion.

A delegation led by UP Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta and Public Works Minister Jitin Prasad visited the weapons manufacturer Saab's headquarters in Stockholm. The company wanted to establish a weapon system manufacturing plant in UP. The UP delegation assured that land near the Aligarh Defense Corridor would be provided. Svenska Aeroplan Aktie Bolag (SAAB) is primarily known for producing Gripen aircraft and Karl Gustaf weapon systems.

In UP, the same Karl Gustaf Weapon System manufacturing plant is planned. The delegation also paid a visit to the Ericsson studio and proposed investing in the field of electronics at UP. Ericsson has agreed to invest in the region in artificial intelligence, automation, and nanotechnology. In San Francisco, UP Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and former minister and MLA Siddharth Nath Singh led a delegation that met with Bay Area Council representatives. The delegation invited members of the Council to the Global Investors Summit.

The delegation visited Stanford University and met with Western Digital President Shiva, as well as Shivram. He also met with Neeraj Bhatia, a San Francisco certified public accountant, and Rose Cheung, president of Radiant Energy LLC.
