Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference: Dr Irfaan Ali Offered 200 Acres of Land in Guyana for Exclusive Production of Millets

Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference, a global event aimed towards increasing the adoption & awareness around Millets, was inaugurated by PM Modi today at Subramanian Hall, NASC Complex, IARI, PUSA Campus, New Delhi.

Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, today praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for organizing the First Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference at PUSA, New Delhi, and said the Conference will go a long way towards addressing the World's Most Serious Challenge of Food Insecurity.

Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated & visited the Buyer Seller Meet and Exhibition. In addition, he unveiled a commemorative stamp and coin featuring millets. Following that, the Prime Minister launched a digital compendium of Indian Millet (Shree Anna) startups and a book of millet (Shree Anna) standards.

Dr. Irfaan Ali of Guyana also offered 200 acres of land in his country for the exclusive production of millets in honor of the United Nations declaring 2023 the International Year of Millet (IYOM). He stated that in exchange, India will provide technology and technical assistance to improve farm production and productivity of this wonder food.

 

In another video address, Ethiopian President, Sahle-Work Zewde congratulated Prime Minister Modi on convening this Global Conference on Millets, saying that it will galvanize world governments and policymakers to promote and produce 'Miracle Millets'.

As per Sahle-Work Zewde, Millets will go a long way towards addressing not only the food security challenges of Sub-Saharan countries like Ethiopia but also the entire African continent and the world. According to her, the ideas from this Conference will also help shape the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
