China’s state news agency Xinhua announced that an artificial intelligence female news reader will debut next month.
Interestingly, the artificial intelligence robot named "Xin Xiaomeng" sported a short haircut and wore a pink blouse and earrings in a one-minute video presentation by Xinhua.
This lifelike robotic news anchor mimics human facial expressions and mannerisms to present a story about delegates attending an annual parliament meeting arriving in Beijing.
The new-age anchor will make “her” debut during the upcoming Two Sessions political meetings at the start of March, according to Xinhua.
Adding to it, the news agency also released a photo of the computer-generated news anchor wearing a pink and maroon dress. Interestingly, Xin is also the second AI-based news anchor who will work for the news agency.
Xin Xiaomeng is modeled after real life Xinhua news anchor Qu Meng and was developed in collaboration with search engine Sogou. However, it’s not clear yet if Xin will speak in Chinese or English.
China has again proved that it is pushing to advance its prowess in AI technology, from surveillance equipment to self-driving cars. Earlier the company had helped the channel develop the world’s first AI male news anchor for English bulletins.
Last November Xinhua displayed two AI news anchors dressed in men's clothes at the World Internet Conference in the eastern Chinese town of Wuzhen.
