Good News for Farmers! Centre Extends PM-KUSUM Scheme till March 2026; Know How to Apply

PM Kusum latest update: The Centre has extended PM-KUSUM Yojana till March 2026 as its implementation was significantly affected because of the pandemic.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan, popularly known as PM-KUSUM that was launched in the year 2019 aimed at adding solar capacity of 30,800 megawatt by 2022 with total central monetary assistance of Rs 34,422 crore, including service charges to the implementing agencies.

Minister for New and Renewable Energy, R K Singh in a written reply to the Lok Sabha said that the pace of implementation of PM Kusum scheme was badly hit due to the COVID-19 epidemic. He said the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has also conducted a third-party assessment of PM Kusum and based on the recommendations; the scheme has been extended till 31 March 2026.

State implementing agencies had asked the government to extend the timeline for execution of projects under the scheme.

The minister also said that Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is keeping a check on the scheme by conducting regular meetings with states on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Based on that the State implementation agencies submit progress reports to the Centre.

PM Kusum yojana consists of three components i.e., Component A, B, and C. Component A is for installation of 10,000 megawatt of solar capacity by setting up small power plants of capacity up to 2 megawatt. Component B aims to install 20 lakh standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps. Component C is for the solarization of 15 lakh grid-connected agri pumps.

How to apply for PM Kusum Yojana

  • Go to the official website - https://pmkusum.mnre.gov.in/

  • On the homepage, click on component A, B or C – as per your need.

  • Fill in the application form with correct details.

  • After completing all the details, click on the submit button to complete registration process.

  • On submitting the application form, you will get a message stating “Successfully Registered”.
