Good News for Farmers: Government Cuts Urea Prices

The Uttar Pradesh government has given a big relief to farmers in the state by reducing the prices of urea, which were increased because of hike in natural gas rates. In a decision taken on 10th January, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath announced the reduction in urea prices, informed a government spokesman.

Now, a farmer will be able to obtain a 45 kg bag of urea - retailed at Rs 299 - for just Rs 266.50. Also, a 50 kg urea bag will be sold in the market for around Rs 299 as against Rs 330.50 previously. The state government has decided to cut the prices which were increased after rising in natural gas rates because of rising in VAT prices, the spokesman told.

The step has been taken considering the Central as well as State government’s mission of doubling the farmers’ income by 2022.

The spokesperson said farmers in Uttar Pradesh since long had been demanding availability of urea at the rates similar to the ones available in other states, and CM Yogi has taken this decision respecting the sentiments of farmers.
