Government Allocates Rs. 1325 Crore for Drought-affected Farmers

The government of Rajasthan has allotted Rs. 1,325 crore for the farmers whose kharif crops have been affected in the 9 drought-hit districts of the state.

The government of Rajasthan has allotted Rs. 1,325 crore for the farmers whose kharif crops have been affected in the 9 drought-hit districts of the state.

During a meeting with the state disaster relief management officials on 19th January, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Ashok Gehlot said the amount ought to be transferred to the affected farmers’ bank accounts. He added that the government has distributed the funds.

The Chief Minister also said, "The Rajasthan government will put forward a proposal to the Central government to increase the time period for organising run relief activities in the affected regions from the present 6 months to 9 months."

Gehlot urged the senior officers to issue necessary advisories to the collectors of the 9 districts and ask for proposals from them for - fodder, water and cattle camps.

He also authorized the district collectors to declare cattle camps, if needed, by cow shelters in the drought-affected districts.

The officials told that around 16.94 lakh farmers from 58 tehsils in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Hanumangarh, Pali and Churu are the worst affected from drought.

It must be noted that in these districts, there are almost 8.5 lakh small as well as marginal farmers whose 33 to 100 % crops were spoiled and around 8 lakh other growers whose crops faced 50 to 100 % damage.

The other senior officers who were present in the meeting included State Urban development Minister Shanti dhariwal, Energy Minister BD Kalla, Disaster Management Minister Master Bhanwar Lal Meghwal, Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria and Chief Secretary DB Gupta.
