Government Approves Signing of MoU Between Chile & India for Agricultural Cooperation
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, a Chile-India Agricultural Working Group will be formed which will be responsible for the supervision, review and assessment of the implementation of this MoU.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave nod to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Government of the Republic of Chile and Government of the Republic of India for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied sectors.
Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting and L Murugan, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, deliberated upon numerous recommendations and proposals that were raised and briefed the media about the cabinet’s decision.
As per the official statement, the MOU will provide cooperation in the field of agriculture and other agri-related sectors.
The primary areas of cooperation that are envisioned are agricultural policies to advance modern agriculture, organic agriculture to facilitate cross-border trade in organic goods and to encourage policy exchanges to advance organic production in both nations, science and innovation to investigate joint ventures to advance agricultural innovation between Indian and Chilean institutes and to work together to address shared challenges.
A Chile-India Agricultural Working Group will be established in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding. This group will be in charge of overseeing, reviewing, and evaluating the execution of the MoU as well as setting up regular contact and coordination.
Once a year, the locations of the Agricultural Working Group meetings will alternate between Chile and India.
The Memorandum of Understanding will become effective upon its signature and remain in force for a period of 5 years from the date of implementation after which it will be automatically renewed for a further period of five years.
