Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai officially launched Rs 5,000 'Kashi Yatra' subsidy scheme on Thursday by distributing cheques to the pilgrims. The cheques were distributed at Vidhana Soudha during a simple ceremony organized by the Muzrai Department.

"Kashi is a major pilgrimage site that evokes the people's spiritual faith. Previously, pilgrims had very few facilities and amenities. It has now been completely transformed. Varanasi is served by direct air, rail, and bus connections,” he stated.

"As a result, the number of pilgrims visiting Kashi has increased dramatically. We are distributing subsidy cheques for ten pilgrims today. It would be transferred directly through the DBT system for pilgrims in the coming days,” Bommai stated.

"The Ganga's banks have been cleaned. Approximately 23 Ghats have been renovated. The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor was designed so that pilgrims could walk directly from the Ganga Ghats to the Vishwanath Temple. I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on his excellent work,” Karnataka Chief Minister stated.

Aside from providing a Rs 5,000 subsidy, the state government has made arrangements for a safe and comfortable journey by separate train, as well as accommodation facilities in Kashi, to make the pilgrimage a safe and pleasant experience, according to Bommai.

More About Kashi Yatra Scheme 2022:

Every year, pilgrims visit to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. Residents of Karnataka also visit the Varanasi temple, but many find it difficult to do so due to economic constraints.

The distance between Karnataka and Varanasi is approximately 1700 kilometers, which is a very long journey. Karnataka residents who embark on the lengthy Kashi Yatra face numerous financial challenges, much like poor people.

As a result, the government devised the plan to provide 30,000 pilgrims with a Rs. 5,000 subsidy each. This seven-crore project is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for yatris. The Karnataka State Government has restricted the Kashi Yatra tour to interested pilgrims. Visitors to the temple must provide proof of their visit by submitting the necessary paperwork to the relevant department, along with their tickets, travel photos, and receipts from their visit.
