India is an agrarian nation and farmers in every state are involved in agricultural practices. However, the economy of Uttar Pradesh is the most agriculture-relied with 65% of its population dependent on agriculture. In today's time, farmers are provided with so many facilities so that their practices can be improved. In this series, a scheme called 'Kisan Uday Yojana' has been launched for the farmers of Uttar Pradesh.

What is Kisan Uday Yojana?

With a vision to increase the income of farmers, Kisan Uday Yojana has been launched. The scheme will help those farmers who have not used pumps for irrigating their lands. This scheme will be working towards educating farmers about various agri-equipments. The state government of Uttar Pradesh has set a vision to allocate approximately 10 lakh irrigation pumps among farmers. What's special in these pumps is that they won't require more electricity because they are structured in such a way that they use minimum power and work more efficiently. These are solar-powered pumps that will use sunlight to generate electricity, which is quite different from grid electricity or diesel run water pumps.

Salient Features of Kisan Uday Yojana

  • The state government has launched this scheme for farmers in Baghpat

  • These pump sets are energy efficient, thereby they will reduce the input costs of farming and hence will improve the individual income of the farmers.

  • These pump sets use 35% lesser energy.

  • This scheme is in accordance with achieving the target of "Power for All" by 2022.

  • Under this scheme, two types of pump sets will be provided to the farmers, 5 Horse Power Pump, and 7.5 Horse Power Pump.

  • Farmers will also be provided with a smart kit through which the farmers will be able to switch on and off the pump.

  • The government will take care of the maintenance of these pumps.
