Guidelines Issued Regarding Data on Migrant Workers in the E-Shram Portal

All State and UT governments have received instructions from the Ministry of Labour & Employment regarding the integration and sharing of data through the e-Shram portal, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Rameshwar Teli, informed in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

The ministry unveiled the e-SHRAM portal, a National Database of Unorganized Workers, on August 26 last year. The States/UTs now have the option to register unorganized workers on the e-SHRAM site.

The major goal of the e-SHRAM portal is to compile a national database of all unorganized workers, including migrant workers, domestic workers, agricultural workers, gig and platform workers, street vendors, and other workers with similar characteristics who have been seeded with Aadhaar.

A worker's information is recorded on the e-SHRAM Portal under various categories, including Aadhaar-related information (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Photo), personal information (marriage status, disability status, etc.), contact information, address information (Present, Permanent), occupation information, bank information, nominee information, etc.

The government wants to expand the use of its social security programmes, and for this, the portal with a nationwide database of 38 crore unorganised sector employees has been launched. Workers, migrant workers, street sellers, and other unorganised sector employees can get themselves registered in this database.

Through the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, accident insurance would be offered to all registered unorganized workers for a full year (PMSBY). One must provide all necessary information to register, including name, occupation, address, level of education, skills, and family information.

The migrant workers can visit the nearest Common Service Center in order to get themselves registered. The employee's individual account number, known as the E-Shram Card, will be used to create a registration card, and Aadhaar will be connected to the database of unorganised and migratory employees.
