Heavy Rainfall Alert: Relief from Heatwave Across India
As the scorching heatwave continues to grip India, several states witnessed some relief as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavy rainfall across various states.
With temperatures soaring and heatwave conditions persisting in regions like Gangetic West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, the impending rain brings much-needed relief.
On the 5th of May, sweltering temperatures reached as high as 46 degrees Celsius in Nandyal, Rayalaseema, have worsened the heatwave's impact. However, IMD's latest predictions offer hope as they anticipate significant rainfall in multiple states.
According to IMD's forecast, states in the North-Eastern region, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, have already experienced light to moderate rainfall over the past few days. Furthermore, IMD predicts the continuation of this rainfall pattern, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in these areas. In Arunachal Pradesh, heavy rainfall was witnessed on May 5 and 6, followed by similar conditions in Assam, Meghalaya on May 7, and Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura from May 5 to 7.
Moving towards the southern states, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana are also anticipated to receive light to moderate rainfall in the coming days. This rainfall brings relief to areas grappling with heatwave conditions and water scarcity.
In North India, a new Western Disturbance is expected to influence the weather from May 9 onwards. This disturbance will bring light to moderate rainfall to Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and East Rajasthan from May 5 to 11. Additionally, Uttar Pradesh is on high alert for rain and strong winds from May 7 to 11.
As the country anticipates significant weather changes, IMD's rainfall alerts serve as a sigh of relief and also guide individuals, farmers, and local authorities to prepare for any potential risks associated with the upcoming weather conditions.
