Heavy Rainfall in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana for Next Two Days; Northeast Monsoon to Commence Around 17th October
According to the India Meteorological Department, rainfall along with thunderstorms is likely over parts of South Peninsular India during the next 3-4 days. With the slow retreat of the Southwest monsoon from Northern as well as Central parts of the country, IMD has predicted the onset of the northeast monsoon around 17th October (Thursday).

With the slow retreat of the Southwest monsoon from Northern as well as Central parts of the country, IMD has predicted the onset of the northeast monsoon around 17th October (Thursday). The weather department said there could be isolated rains over the western Himalayan region, east and northeast India while remaining parts of the country will experience dry weather.
Talking about Southern India, here light to moderate rainfall with one or two heavy spells could occur over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Interior Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu.
IMD issuing an alert said that "Heavy rainfall will take place at isolated places in the districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari & West Godavari. Thunderstorm associated with lightning is also expected at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh”. It said that thunderstorm with lightning will occur at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh tomorrow (16th October) as well.
According to the IMD, thunderstorm is possible over Rayalaseema region that comprises of Chittoor, Kurnool, Kadapa & Anantapur tomorrow and day after. The weather department attributed the rain warning to the formation of Cumulonimbus clouds, due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh & its neighboring regions. The Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) issued a weather alert for fishermen off the Andhra coast for next 24 hours.
The IMD also issued a 2-day alert for neighbouring state Telangana. It said, "Heavy showers are likely at isolated places in Telangana along with thunderstorm associated with lightning”. Scattered light to moderate showers is also expected over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka
The northeast states of Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura will also receive scattered light to moderate rainfall.
Isolated light rainfall is possible over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra Vidarbha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
Meanwhile the minimum temperatures could drop marginally over Northwest Plains and Central India. Weather in Delhi will be dry till the weekend and the Air Quality Index (AQI) remains in poor to very poor category. The stubble burning in Punjab & Haryana will soon increase and the winds from north and northwesterly directions will continue to add pollution to Delhi through the pollutants of stubble burning.
