Heavy Rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai for Next Few Days; Schools, Colleges to Remain Close

Weather Report: Mumbai witnessed a wet weekend and according to weather department more rains are likely today (9 September 2019). However, conditions would ease from tomorrow, the Indian Meteorological Department indicated. The IMD's forecast issued on Sunday mentioned that Mumbai is likely to get heavy rainfall at isolated places on Monday and Thane & Palghar might receive 'heavy to very heavy' rainfall at isolated places. From 10 September 2019, the city will get light to moderate rains, which will continue till 12 September 2019, as per IMD.

Mumbai witnessed a wet weekend and according to weather department more rains are likely today (9 September 2019). However, conditions would ease from tomorrow, the Indian Meteorological Department indicated.

The IMD's forecast issued on Sunday mentioned that Mumbai is likely to get heavy rainfall at isolated places on Monday and Thane & Palghar might receive 'heavy to very heavy' rainfall at isolated places. From 10 September 2019, the city will get light to moderate rains, which will continue till 12 September 2019, as per IMD.

Rain in Madhya Pradesh

Meanwhile, all government as well as private schools in Bhopal and Sehore districts of Madhya Pradesh have been asked to remain closed following nonstop rain in several parts of the state.

After heavy rainfall since Saturday, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy downpour in 32 districts of MP on Monday. IMD officer PK Shah told Bhopal received 62.1 millimetres rain between 8:30 am & 5:30 pm yesterday. Another official told that 5 of 13 gates of Kaliasote reservoir in the capital city were opened due to heavy rains.

Meteorologists said that the flood situation is likely over Madhya Pradesh for the next few days as extremely heavy rains will lash many parts of the state. Places like Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Ratlam, Sagar, Gwalior, Guna, Morena might get no relief from flooding rains for the next 3 to 4 days.

The Low-Pressure Area persists over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and the axis of Monsoon Trough has been extending from Rajasthan to this Low-Pressure Area across MP. Due to all these systems, there will be more flooding rains in Madhya Pradesh, particularly its Western and Northeastern parts for at least next 3 days.

The intensity would be comparatively lesser over the southeastern districts like Mandla and neighboring areas.

Rainfall /thunderstorm today:

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall & thunderstorms - Southern part of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh & Meghalaya.

  • Moderate to heavy rainfall - Southeast Rajasthan, Goa, Assam, West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and coastal Karnataka.

  • Widespread showers and thunderstorms: - Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala & Andaman & Nicobar Island.

  • Scattered rainfall- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Telangana & inland Karnataka.

  • Isolated rainfall & thunderstorms - Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh.
