Heavy Rains, Hailstorm to Continue in These States for Next 24 hours; Met Department Issues Alert

The meteorological department of India has released today’s weather forecast and predicted moderate to heavy rains in several parts of the country, mainly Odisha and Northeastern region during the next 24 hours. Moreover, Odisha has been lashed with heavy rainfall since yesterday’s night wherein Sambalpur recorded 20 mm of rain, Keonjhargarh 13 mm, Jharsuguda 10 mm, Bhubaneswar 8 mm, and Balasore 3 mm.

As per reports, these rains and thundershowers are likely to further intensify both in terms of intensity and spread. The reason behind these ongoing rains is the cyclonic circulation marked over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar says Skymet's report. A trough is also extending from this system up to West Bengal. In addition to this, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are also increasing the moisture over the entire eastern parts of the country. The weather systems would be moving eastwards, resulting in a further increase in rain activities.

With weather systems likely to persist for another 24 hours, rains in Odisha would continue till tomorrow. As per weathermen, rains would start reducing over interior Odisha by Wednesday evening. However, coastal parts of Odisha would continue for some more time.

Moreover, the Skymet predicts the weather to clear up by February 27 as the weather systems would become insignificant. Dry and humid weather conditions would make a comeback.

Slowly and steadily as we enter March, East India including Odisha would slip into pre-Monsoon season. As a result, there would be a gradual rise in weather activities as we progress further in the month, particularly intense lightning strikes.

Every year, intense lightning strikes during the pre-Monsoon season are responsible for claiming several lives across East India.
