Farmer's Livelihood Strengthen As Himachal Roll Out Sustainable Food System Platform
The launch of the Sustainable Food System Platform (SusPNF) can be seen as an important move towards maximizing sustainable agriculture and helping traditional farmers' livelihoods.
The launch of the Sustainable Food System Platform (SusPNF) marks a significant move towards enhancing sustainable agriculture and helping traditional farmers' livelihoods. This initiative is the outcome of a partnership between Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, the State Agriculture Department, and Farmer Producer companies, making it a distinctive project in the nation.
The initiative is a key part of a partnership between the University, the State Department of Agriculture's PK3Y, and NABARD. Its main objective is to empower traditional farmers and advance agriculture. NABARD has designated the University as a Promoter Organization for N-FPCs, showing their commitment to sustainable farming and local communities. The University will assist N-FPCs in obtaining grants and support from NABARD to enhance their capabilities and bridge the resource gap for the farming community.
The partnership aims to support natural farmers with post-harvest aid, alignment with Sustainable Development Goals, and technical services. This underscores the university's commitment to transforming agriculture in Himachal Pradesh, focusing on sustainability and not just financial aid. Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, UHF's Vice-Chancellor, anticipates a brighter and more sustainable future for natural farmers and the state's agriculture through these initiatives.
A workshop called SusPNF will be held at the University's Directorate of Extension Education as part of the partnership. It will include key stakeholders such as the Secretary of Agriculture in Himachal Pradesh, high-ranking NABARD and PK3Y officials, CEOs, and Board members of natural farming Producer Companies, along with university scientists involved in the project. The inaugural workshop will focus on sustainable models for natural farming food systems.
