ICAR-ATARI with GADVASU Organizes Workshop on Precision Livestock Farming

The two-day workshop focused on sharing insights about “Precision Livestock Farming”

ICAR- ATARI Zone I, Ludhiana in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, successfully concluded a “Research-Extension Interface meet on Precision Livestock Farming”. The two-day workshop focused on sharing insights about “Precision Livestock Farming”, and brought together experts, leaders, and stakeholders in shaping the future of farming.

Workshop on Precision Livestock Farming

The workshop featured presentations and discussions on the following:

  • Climate-resilient livestock farming

  • Smart use of crop residues

  • Reproductive management

  • Recent developments in animal breeding promoting eco-friendly practices. 

An on-farm exposure-cum-demonstration visit to be aware of precision livestock farming practices at the Directorate of Livestock Farms of Vet-varsity was also conducted.

Panel Discussion

A highlight of the concluding day was a prolific panel discussion with experts including:

  • Dr Parvender Sheoran Director, ATARI

  • Dr P S Brar, Director of Extension Education

  • Dr S S Randhawa Director of Clinics

  • Dr Y P S Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology

  • Dr Pawan Singh Dabas, Principal Scientist, NDRI Karnal

  • Uttam Kumar Sinha GM, Verka milk plant Mohali

  • Sandeep Singh Randhawa from the Punjab Livestock Farmer’s Association

  • Harvinder Singh, Pig Farmers’ Welfare Association.

The participating scientists and stakeholders actively addressed the queries of livestock scientists, fostering a spirit of teamwork and troubleshooting through knowledge sharing.

During the concluding session Dr SS Gosal, Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana applauded the event's vision and discussed the role of artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and biotechnology in future livestock farming to achieve precision. Dr Gosal also stressed the need to replicate such exemplary events for other areas of excellence.
