ICAR Dignitaries Visit National Research Center for Orchids, Discuss Expansion and Entrepreneurship Opportunities

Dr. V. K. Singh and other distinguished officials visited ICAR-NRC for Orchids in Sikkim, discussing expansion of orchid promotion, entrepreneurship in PPP mode, and much more.

Dr. V. K. Singh, Director, ICAR- Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad Dr. R. Roy Burman, ADG (Agricultural Extension) ICAR, Dr. M. M. Adhikari, former Vice-Chancellor and Professor at BCKV, West Bengal, and Dr. Keshava, Principal Scientist at Extension Division, ICAR-HQ visited ICAR- National Research Centers for Orchids, Pakyong, Sikkim on May 02, 2024.

Dr. R. Roy Burman, ADG (Agricultural Extension) urged that demonstration units be set up at KVKs to promote and exhibit the potential of orchids in different parts of the country. They also urged to foster entrepreneurship in PPP mode.

Dr. S.P. Das, Director, ICAR-NRC for Orchids, explained about the ongoing research programmes and priorities in coming days while showing them different orchidariums and laboratories at the centre.  Distinguished dignitaries discussed with NRCO scientists and staff.

Dr. V. K. Singh, while appreciating the excellent activities at the centre, urged to expand the activities throughout the country in network mode.     

They also interacted with board members from two Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Cherry Blossom and Premlakha Subaneydara, attached with ICAR-NRCO. Business plans of FPOs and strategies for improving backward and forward linkages were discussed.
